+ Innovative energy-concious design - The use of the available

Before the phrase 'displacement ventilation' was even coined, the available height of KTVU television studios was used taking advantage of the natural stratification in an innovative concept. The 72 F low return air from the occupied lower level of the studio was resupplied to the upper level of the studio above the lights. The air in the studio is used twice - the first time supplied, from overhead out of sight, to cool the occupied level and the second time to skim the heat of the lights maintaining 90 F to protect the overhead lights and equipment.

+ Take Your Best Energy Shot With 'What You Got'

"In the design of any built environment there are certain elements which can be described as given, or available to the desugner."  "On this project the design team made use of the most obvious but often overlooked avilable component, the weather."

+ Specifying Engineer's 1st M/E Engineering Achievment Award

"The uniqueness of the heat recovery system, which recovers heat rejected from the condenser of the computer (room) air conditioning unit, lies in its ability to utilize low temperature condenser water for heating. ... harnessing a conventional technique, the 'four pipe system' for energy conservation. Using the same deep cooling coil for heating provides sufficient heating with only 95 F water."
